Creative solutions for basement bathrooms

Basement bathrooms can be a very useful addition to any property. As long as the soil pipe exits below the basement floor, it's no problem to evacuate grey and black water. However, what do you do if this isn't the case? One solution that is often used is a macerator pump that chops up waste and then pumps it up to the height of the outfall. These, however, are notorious for breaking down and getting clogged, usually at 3am or a Sunday, as many a plumber will testify. What then follows is a rather unpleasant hour or so of unblocking the macerator, only for it to repeat itself once again in the boringly near future. A far better solution is to fit a mini septic tank with a high power macerator pump that mulches almost anything it comes into contact with. This is set into the floor of the basement, and requires the slab to be broken and dug out. The toilet and shower then feed into this, and once the water height rises, the pump engages and pumps the waste out to the outfall. This is a far more durable solution, and really is a 'fire and forget' when it comes to creating a basement bathroom. A professional solution that is tailor made for the job.
