Winding down, wrapping up & welcoming 2020
Winding down, wrapping up & welcoming 2020
Every year around the beginning of the holiday season, Victoria and I almost simultaneously get the bright idea to set aside time to reflect upon our current state and project ahead for the new year. Of course, this rumination-fest will take place over a leisurely dinner or during an afternoon on our patio, gazing at our lovely view as we philosophise, strategise and create the ideal plan for the year ahead.
But here’s what actually happens.
Twenty-four hours before Thanksgiving we will be speeding around a job site, making sure everything from appliances to artwork is pure perfection for our client. We will then realise that we have done virtually zero planning for our own momentous meal, and there is an excellent chance we will end up eating turkey burgers and a giant bag of crisps with our two pups staring us, longing to share in our bounty.
Next, we will begin the month of December with a vow to carve out some time to plan. We’ll even grab our calendars, choose a date, and proudly lock it in. We will then spend the remainder of the month running around frantically, forgetting the promised date entirely as we try to make all the proverbial dots join by the end of the year.
The temptation is to beat ourselves about the head and shoulders, lamenting the fact that – once again – we are entering a new year absolutely frazzled from the last and with no headspace to contemplate anything useful like a New Year’s resolution or three. But the reality is, this is often just the way things are when you are blessed to be running a successful business, and to have many people, causes and activities that matter to you in your life. As Victoria so aptly put it, “Getting to the end of the year in a frazzled state of somewhat contented exhaustion is actually one of the many things we have to be grateful for.”
Don’t get me wrong. We still dream of a time where our lives are a bit more Zen and that the end of our year be a bit less like a sequel to Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Then again, as a self-confessed adrenaline junkie, I’m not sure I’d be able to handle a completely tranquil existence (I think perhaps Victoria might enjoy a tad more serenity, but I digress…).
So, here’s to another year of adventure and escalating excellence for Team C&C! We can’t wait to get to work on a whole new schedule of projects to make our clients ecstatic and keep us excited and energised throughout 2020!
